The Polar Express by:Chris VanAllsburg
A magical train ride on Christmas Eve takes a boy to the North Pole to receive a special gift from Santa Claus.
Songs
Jingle Bells
Give the children each a bell to jingle while you sing this song.

(shortened version)

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

You can play this song for the kids and have them sing along.

Lyrics:

Old toy trains, little toy tracks
Little toy drums, coming from a sack
Carried by a man, dressed in white and red
Little One, don't you think it's time you were in bed?

Close your eyes, listen to the skies
All is calm, all is well
Soon you'll her Kris Kringle and his jingle bells.

Bringing old toy trains, little toy tracks
Little toy drums, coming from a sack
Carried by a man, dressed in white and red
Little One, don't you think it's time you were in bed?
Choo Choo Ch'Boogie

(Great for playing on entry/exit of children)

Great for a little dance party, as the song is too long to learn quickly.
Or you could play it as the children leave.
Choo Choo Ch'Boogie
Headin' for the station with a pack on my back
I'm tired of transportation in the back of my hack
I love to hear the rhythm of the clickety clack
And hear the lonesome whistle see the smoke from the stack to pal around
With democratic fellow named mac
So take me right back to the track, jack

Choo-choo, choo-choo, ch'boogie, woo-woo
Woo-woo, ch'boogie, choo-choo, choo-choo, ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, jack

You reach your destination but you don't go back
You need some compensation to get back in the black
You take a morning paper from the top of the stack
And read the situations from the front to the back
But the only job that's open needs a man with a knack
So put it right back in the rack, jack

Choo-choo, choo-choo, ch'boogie, woo-woo
Woo-woo, ch'boogie, choo-choo, choo-choo, ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, jack

Gonna settle down by the railroad track
Live the life o'riley in the beat down shack
When i hear a whistle i can peep thru the crack
Watch the train rollin' when it's ballin' the jack
Love to hear the rhythm of the clickety clack
So take me right back to the track, jack

Choo-choo, choo-choo, ch'boogie, woo-woo
Woo-woo, ch'boogie, choo-choo, choo-choo, ch'boogie
Take me right back to the track, jack

Take me right back to the track, jack

And- You can tape off railroad tracks on the floor with black tape.
Notes
The more verses you can learn of Jingle Bells, the better, so that the children can dance around and shake the jingle bells for longer.
