A House for Hermit Crab by:Eric Carle
A hermit crab who has outgrown his old shell moves into a new one, which he decorates and enhances with the various sea creatures he meets in his travels.
The Little House by:Virginia Lee Burton
A poignant story of a cute country cottage that becomes engulfed by the city that grows up around it. The house has an expressive face of windows and doors, and even the feelings of a person, so she's sad when she's surrounded by the dirty, noisy city's hustle and bustle.
A House is Not a Home by:Anne Liersch
Badger offers to help the other animals build a house to keep them warm and cosy for the coming winter, but his attitude of perfection drives them away, causing him to change his ways.
We were Tired of Living in a House by:Liesel Moak Skorpen
Four children, a cat, and a dog move to a tree, a raft, a cave, and finally the seashore, enjoying each new dwelling until they discover its drawbacks.
This Old House by:Karen Ackerman
Although an old house appears abandoned, an owl, squirrels, mice, rabbits, and many other wild creatures have made it their home.
Songs
Home on the Range
Home, Home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
There was an Old Woman
Where was an old woman
Who lived in a shoe
She had so many children
She did not know what to do

So she gave them some broth
Without any bread
She whipped them all soundly
Then sent them to bed.
To Market, To Market
To market, to market
To buy a fat pig
Home again, Home again
Jiggity Jig.

To market, to market
To buy a fat hog
Home again, home again
Jiggity Jog
Craft
Get or draw a picture of a house and create your own home. They can use different media materials for the outside of the house. They may place items in the windows such as plants, animals and their families by drawing them in the windows.
Other
Take a floor plan of a house and have them draw the inside. Have pictures of furniture to put in the house.
Notes
There was an old woman is the original nursery rhyme. You may want to talk about how they have changed.
