A Song for Making Mud Pie
(To the tune of Sing a Song of Sixpence)
Sing a song for mud pie,
It's my favorite brand.
Mix it 'til it's mush,
Squeeze it with your hand,
Put it in a tin pan,
Leave it in the sun.
Wait about an hour
Then you know it will be done
(From Nature Boxes for Early Childhood Educators, Debbi Wiliams, Story County Conservation Board)
Mud, Mud, Mud, is Fun
(To the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Mud, mud, mud is fun
Watch us stir it up
Round and round and round and round
Mud is fun to make.

Mud, mud, mud, is fun
Listen to it squish
Through our fingers, round our toes
Squish is how it goes.
(From Nature Boxes for Early Childhood Educators, Debbi Williams, Story County Conservation Board)
Mud is very nice to feel
All squishy-squash between the toes!
I'd rather wade in wiggly mud
Then smell a yellow rose.

Nobody else but the rosebush knows
How nice mud feels
Between the toes.
--Polly Chase Boyden
I Wish I Were
(To the tune of If You're Happy and You Know It)
Oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap
Oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap.
I'd go slidy, slidy, slidy
Over everybody's body
Oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap
(The World's Best Funny Songs - Esther J. Nelson, 1988)
Mix powdered milk, white tempra and brown tempra paint to the desired consistance of mud. Children can paint a big mud puddle and place a cut out piggy in it.
