Act out "sawing", "hammering" and "painting" while you sing.

This is the way we saw the wood, saw the wood saw the wood.
This is the way we saw the wood, so early in the morning.
This is the way we hammer the nails, hammer the nails hammer the nails.
This is the way we hammer the nails, so early in the morning.
This is the way we paint the house, paint the house paint the house.
This is the way we paint the house so early in the morning.

Construction Song
I had cut outs of each type of truck for the kids. They held up the correct truck as we sang.

The backhoe scoops the dirt, the backhoe scoops the dirt, hey ho look at it go the back hoe scoops the dirt!
The dozer moves the dirt, the dozer moves the dirt, hey ho look at it go the dozer moves the dirt! The loader dumps the dirt, the loader dumps the dirt, hey ho look at it go the loader dumps the dirt! The dump truck bumps away, the dump truck bumps away, hey ho look at it go the dump truck bumps away. The cement mixer spins, the cement mixer spins, hey ho look at it go the cement mixer spins! The crane moves up and down, the crane moves up and down, hey ho look at it go the crane moves up and down.
House patterning
I had a cut out of each color house and did this as a felt board activity.

Red house, red house, what do you see? I see the blue house next to me. Blue house, blue house, what do you see, I see a yellow house next to me. Yellow house, yellow house, what do you see, I see a green house next to me. Green house, green house, what do you see, I see an orange house next to me. Orange house, orange house, what do you see, I see a purple house next to me. Purple house, purple house what do you see, I see a brown house next to me. Brown house, brown house what do you see, I see a pink house next to me.
Five Big Nails
I had big die cuts of 5 nails and a hammer and removed each nail as we counted down.

Five Big nails standing straight and tall, here comes the builder with his hammer ready
Bam! Bam! Bam!
(count down 4, 3, 2, 1) final verse: One Big nail standing straight and tall, here comes the builder with his hammer readyÖ..Bam! Bam! Bam! No more nails!
I Have One Hammer
The kids had so much fun doing this that we did it twice!

(make an up/down motion with one fist)
I have 1 hammer, 1 hammer,1 hammer,
I have 1 hammer then I have 2.

(make up/down motion with both fists)
I have 2 hammers, 2 hammers, 2 hammers,
I have 2 hammers then I have 3.

(make up/down motion with both fists and one leg.)
I have 3 hammers, 3 hammers, 3 hammers,
I have 3 hammers then I have 4.

(make up/down motion with both fists and both legs)
I have 4 hammers, 4 hammers, 4 hammers,
I have 4 hammers then I have 5.

(make up/down motion with both fists, both legs and nod head)
I have 5 hammers, 5 hammers, 5 hammers,
I have 5 hammers, Iím tired, Iím going to sleep. (make a sleep motion as if laying your head on a pillow)

Craft
In lieu of a craft I put out the straws and connector set from the "What's the Big Idea?" program. The kids worked together and constructed a huge "building". It was tons of fun!
