Red, Red, Red by:Valeri Gorbachev
Turtle is in a hurry to see something "red, red, red." As he hurries through town, he encounters several neighbors who think he's going to see their red roses, red fruits, red socks, red roof, red fire engine, or red boat. When they find out he's not going to their red objects, each character falls into place behind Turtle to see this "red, red, red" object. It is well worth the journey everyone takes with Turtle to see the "red, red, red" object that he and his friends see at the end.
Muriel's Sweater by:Dara Dokas
A duck named Muriel is having a birthday party. She puts on her red sweater to deliver invitations to her neighbors. As we follow Muriel along her route to deliver inviations, we see some comical changes to her red sweater. We also see how her neighbors react to the changes to her sweater.
Holly's Red Boots by:Francesca Chessa
A young girl, Holly, and her cat, Jasper, look for Holly's red boots so that they can go outside to play in the snow. We follow Holly and Jasper as they come across lots of other red items in the house: a toy car, a hat, a bathrobe, an umbrella, a pair of gloves, and a pair of socks. By the time Holly and Jasper find the red boots, the snow has melted. However, Holly's mother saves the day when she suggests Holly wear her boots to play in the puddles left by the melted snow. Writer/illustrator Francesca Chessa uses lots of bold primary colors - especially red - in her charming illustrations of Holly's home.
If Your Clothes Have Any Red
Sung to "If You're Happy and You Know It"

If your clothes have any red, any red,
If your clothes have any red, any red,
If your clothes have any red,
Put your finger on your head,
If your clothes have any red, any red.

What is Red?
Sung to "Three Blind Mice"

Red, red, red
Red, red, red
What is red?
What is red?
Apples, cherries and me, oh my
Tomatoes to bake in a pizza pie.
Red is the color, and that is why
We sing red.

I Love Red
Sung to "Three Blind Mice"

I love red, I love red.
That's what I said, that's what I said.
Firetrucks, wagons and strawberries piled high.
Stop signs, hearts and pizza pies.
Roses, tomatoes and apples, oh my.
I love red.
That's what I said.

Red Collages

Put out die-cuts of objects usually associated with the color red (i.e. apple, heart, barn, flower, ladybug, crab, car, etc). Let children pick several to paste onto construction paper. An alternative - put out magazine pages with red objects. Let the children pick several items to cut out and paste onto construction paper.
