Life As A House
MPAA Rating: Rated R for language, sexuality and drug use.
Genre: Drama
What would you do if you found out you had a short time to live? George, played by Kevin Kline, decides he's going to try to salvage what he can of his broken relationship with his estranged wife and teenaged son, played by the same kid that plays Annakin Skywalker in the recent Star Wars prequels. George decides he's going to build a home to leave something to his son meanwhile keeping himself busy while he's slowly dying of cancer. Truthfully, my girlfriend suggested this movie and I reluctantly began watching it. However, I was pleasantly surprised and glued to the screen the entire time.

American History X
MPAA Rating: Rated R for graphic brutal violence including rape, pervasive language, strong sexuality and nudity.
Genre: Drama
Try to keep an open mind about this one. It's about a guy (Edward Norton Jr) who is a member of a skinhead/white supremacist gang. He's quickly rising to the ranks of leader in the gang. However, he's locked up after a shooting incident and discovers there's much more to life than what he's been brainwashed to believe. Incredible cinematography. Flashbacks in the movie are filmed in black and white, but the rest of the movie is color. It's a violent film, but an important example of race relations in America. By far Edward Norton Jr's greatest performances.

Band of Brothers
MPAA Rating: NR

The several part HBO series is a co-creation of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. By far one of the greatest war films/series made in a while. Action, comedy, lots of structure. It's entertaining and it's a history lesson.

The Taste Of Tea
MPAA Rating: NR
Genre: International
It's sort of a Japanese mellowed version of "Little Miss Sunshine", only without the pageant and road-trip & delves more into the interpersonal relationships of each character. The guy who plays the grandpa is priceless. I don't want to give too much away, but there's a scene at the beginning & end of the movie that made me cry. It's a really beautiful movie that isn't too sappy, but definitely quirky and imaginative.
