1001 Books Before Kindergarten!
Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at birth help to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary – two important tools for beginning to learn to read when they enter Kindergarten.
This new early literacy program is designed to help ready your child for Kindergarten. It sounds like a lot of books, but if you read only three books a day, you will be done in just about a year!
Come to the Children’s Reference desk and get a pre-printed book log (each log is for 100 books)
Color in one star for each book your child listens to. (story time books count!)
When you complete a log, bring it to the Children’s Reference desk to have it stamped and dated.
Continue on with each book log until your child has completed the program!
Book logs can also be downloaded from home at www.hcpl.net
