1st To Die

San FranciscoI wanted to try one of James Patterson’s titles, as he is so popular. 1st to Die is the beginning of his Women’s Murder Club series. The heroine is Inspector Lindsay Boxer of the San Francisco Police Department. It starts with a dramatic beginning in which she is holding her gun to her head and seriously considering ending it all. Then the story begins with a flashback in which Boxer is called to solve a series of murders involving young newly married couples. As I read the book, I kept wondering what happened to make her so distraught. To get help in solving the honeymoon murders, Boxer forms a group of professional women to assist her and thus the Women’s Murder Club is born. Patterson’s story is slick with lots of soap opera tones, but he does keep you interested. If you like Mary Higgins Clark, I think you’ll like this series.
