540,000 and Counting! Project Mill-E at the Midway Mark.

July 1 is the midpoint of the year and we thought it would be a good time to give you a progress report on Project Mill-E, Harris County Public Library’s initiative to circulate one million eBooks in 2016. In a word, the progress has been amazing! Since January 1, HCPL eBook readers have checked out 540,669 items (compared to a smidge over 397,000 for the same period last year—an increase of 36 percent). Any way you slice it, that is some serious eReading.

As a combination reward for all of you who have helped us get off to such a great start toward our goal, and as inducement to continue, we are thrilled to announce that today we have added over 500 new titles to our Digital Media Catalog including thrillers by Sandra Brown, Robin Cook, Vince Flynn & Brad Thor to name just a few.

UPDATE (June 30, 2016. 2:30 p.m.): 160 eBook titles including bestsellers by Nora Roberts, Stuart Woods, Terry McMillan, James Patterson, Anne Tyler and many other A-list authors have just been added to the catalog. Get 'em while they're hot.

Project Mill-E isn’t just about bragging rights. Its purpose is to help us gauge current and potential demand for digital media. So if you've never tried an eBook, now is a good time to give one a test read.

Thanks, and happy reading!
