African American History Month

Galena Park Branch Library embraces the diversity of our community. In February we celebrate African American history month with a variety of programming.

Jalia Movement Arts will present, “I Hear the Drum”, Monday, February 4, 2019 at 4 PM. “I Hear the Drum”, is an African dance celebrating life and joy. The cultural movement will be explored in conjunction with history, highlighting its unique dance styles and music. This program is perfect for the whole family.

We will have a special Story Time on February 6, 2019 at 11:30 AM honoring the legacy of some of the most influential Civil Rights advocates. Participants will be able to complete a fun craft, as well.
Throughout the month, teens can participate in our Teen Book vs Movie session. Middle and High school students can borrow a copy of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Don’t have a library card? No worries, swing by and we can help you! We will have a book talk and pizza for participants on February 19, 2019 at 4 PM.

The Afternoon Book Club will be discussing Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel Beloved on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 12 pm. Books, Audiobooks, eBooks and eAudiobook copies are available for checkout on our website and at the library.
