Annihilation: One Bizzare, Fantastic, Wild Ride.

AnnihilationIf you're looking for something different than your traditional space opera, or the popular dystopian fiction, then give Annihilation a try.

Area X has claimed the lives of members of eleven expeditions. The twelfth expedition consisting of four women hopes to map the terrain and collect specimens; to record all their observations, scientific and otherwise, of their surroundings and of one another; and, above all, to avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.

Its difficult to know where to begin with this journey into Area X.  Quite quickly the expedition takes a sudden change, and the world of Area X takes off into wildly imaginative directions.   I can say that after picking it up, I was unable to put the book down.  Luckily its only a few hundred pages and can be read pretty quickly.

To say too much will give away information that you will want to discover on your own.  The most I can say is that I will eagerly await the next book in the "Southern Reach Trilogy.
