April Events in the Children's Department
This is no April Fool's joke...join us for some fun children's programs this month. We will have afterschool programs on several Monday afternoons at 4:30 pm. On Monday, April 8, children ages 5-11 are invited to try out our new Legos. We'll have these colorful plastic bricks in the Children's Activity Space for children to create their own masterpieces. Due to limited quantities, these Legos cannot be taken home. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera to take a picture of their child's creation. On Monday, April 15, Bricks4Kids will be here for a program on creating Solar Panels. This program is designed for children 5-11 years old. On Monday, April 22, children can celebrate Earth Day by making recycled crafts. This program is designed for children 5-11 years old. Tickets are required for all these programs. They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.
Firefighters from the Houston Fire Department's Station No. 72 will be here on Friday, April 12 at 10 am. They'll tell children about the fire truck and let them get on the truck for a visit. This program is recommended for toddler age and above. No tickets are needed for this program. The fire truck will be on the Diana Lane side of the library.
We'll also have our regular storytimes: Toddler Time for children 18 months to 3 years on Mondays at 11:15 and Tuesdays at 10:15 & 11:15; Preschool Storytime for children 3-5 years old on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:30 pm and Book Babies for infants up to 18 months old on Wednesdays at 10:15 and 11:15. These programs require tickets. They are free and given out 30 minutes before the program or right when we open at 10 am for the 10:15 programs.
Additionally, we have a Chess Club that meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm except for school holidays. This program is designed for children 5 years and older. Children of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Free tickets for this program are given out starting at 6:00 pm.
