The Big Picture

When we think of picture books a lot of the time we think of the story they tell: the words, the characters, the lessons they impart and how they make us feel when we close the cover. Maybe we remember certain phrases that we read, or had read to us. I certainly remember "I'll eat you up I love you so" from Where the Wild Things Are, or "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can" from The Little Engine that Could. But past that, I also remember the giant tree in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and the amazing purple drawings in Harold and the Purple Crayon. That's right-we're putting the picture in picture books today with ten of the most beautifully illustrated books to hit our shelves in the past handful or so years. These books are sure to leave at least a little bit of wonder in their wake.
