Bob Dylan @ the Movies
Bob Dylan performed at the Woodlands' Pavilion last Sunday and, while I was not able to attend, I have seen him live six times (by himself, with Paul Simon, at the Houston Rodeo after chuck wagon racing). But for those times I've missed him when he's been in town, I can pull out a DVD and see live concert footage on a whim:
- Don't Look Back - directed by D.A. Pennebaker, this "documentary" follows Bob Dylan through part of a 1965 tour and includes "behind the scenes" and concert footage.
- No Direction Home - directed by Martin Scorsese, this documentary details the life and career of Bob Dylan up through his first electric tour and motorcycle accident in 1966, including interviews with contemporaries (such as Pete Seeger and Joan Baez) as well as concert footage.
- The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan Live at the Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965 - directed by Murray Lerner, this film includes an amazing set list of Dylan's early folk and famed electric transition, as well as interviews.
