Books Alive! Events for Children

Looking for something fun and free to do with the children next week?  Freeman Library will have lots of activities for Books Alive! Week.  This annual fun is sponsored by generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library.   Here's a list of the activities:

Monday, March 11 (2:30-4:30 pm.) - Marsha's Petting Zoo will be on the Diana Lane side of the parking lot with lots of small and not-so-small farm animals to see and pet.  No tickets are needed.  We'll just line up along the library's front porch.

Tuesday, March 12 (3:00 pm) - New Orleans-based children's author, singer and musician, Johnette Downing, will be performing at two Harris County Public Library locations.  She'll be at the Evelyn Meador Branch in Seabrook at 10:30 am and at the Clear Lake City Recreation Center (diagonally across Diana Lane from Freeman Library) at 3:00 pm in the gym.   No tickets are needed for this program.  Harris County Public Library has her books and CD's available for checkout.

Wednesday, March 13 (2:30-4:30 pm) - Clifford the Big Red Dog visits Freeman Library - Clifford turns 50 this year and he will greet children and be happy to pose for pictures with them.   To honor Clifford's 50 years of entertaining children, we'll have face painting and balloon animals, too.

Story-teller Tracey Wheat  (6:30-7:30 pm) - Tracey Wheat will bring to life the African American tale "Daniel and Mr. Wilson".

Thursday, March 14 (2:30-3:30 pm) - Second Chance Pets - volunteers with this pet adoption organization will be here to talk about pet adoption and to show some of the dogs they have helped.

Friday, March 15 (2:30-3:30 pm) - Chalk Art Fun - we'll have fun with chalk whether its sunny or raining.  If it's nice outside, we'll do some sidewalk chalk drawings.  If it's raining, we'll do some drawings on big sheets of paper in the Children's Activity Space.

Week programs, join us for our regular storytimes.  Toddler Time for children 18 months to 3 years old on Mondays @ 11:15 am and Tuesdays @ 10:15 and 11:15 am.; Preschool Storytime for children 3-5 years old on Tuesdays and Wednesdays @1:30 pm; and Book Babies for children newborns to 18 months old on Wednesdays @ 10:15 and 11:15 am.   These programs require tickets.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program or right as we open at 10 am for the 10:15 am programs.
