Celebrate Read Across America

I love reading and, I try my hardest to inspire that love in the next generation. March is Read Across America Month where we celebrate reading with our children. Here at Evelyn Meador we have scheduled magician and educator Julian Franklin to present his show “Reading Rocks (with Socks and Fox) on March 3rd at 2:00 PM. After celebrating Dr. Suess we will be making our own take home Sock Puppet reading buddies starting around 3:00 PM. If you can’t make this event, each week we have several opportunities to expose your children to reading. Starting March 5th, we will be introducing our “Toddler International Storytime” which will be happening every Monday at 10:30 AM. On Tuesdays at 10:30 AM we have “Preschool Storytime”, and on Wednesdays we have our “Baby Time” at 10:15 AM followed by “Toddler Time” at 11:00 AM.

One of my favorite pastime activities is sitting down with a warm cup of coffee and reading a good book. Maybe that is why I work at a library. With the weather the way it has been lately I can’t think of anything I would like to do more then to enjoy my favorite pastime. Even though here at the library I have been helping everyone find their next adventure or engrossing non-fiction read, I have been enjoying the Pierce Brown “Red Rising” Series. The new release Iron Gold is the latest book I have been able to get my hands on. Half way through I am totally hooked, just as I was with all of his other books. Brown’s writing has you feeling all the emotions of his characters and tagging along on the adventure with them. Darrow, a helldriver of Mars, has a good life until one day he loses the thing that is most precious to him. This loss leads to adventures that, at times, Darrow doesn’t want. Starting on Mars, these books explore the galaxy with twist and turns galore. This series will have your head spinning, your heart pumping and even at times may leave you with tears in your eyes.
