Clipart picture of a rescue searchThere will be an eight-week Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training class sponsored by the La Porte Office of Emergency Management (OEM) from January 19th-March 8th, 2012. Classes will be held each Thursday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the La Porte Fire Training Facility.

CERT training is a Federal Emergency Management Agency program that educates citizens in basic disaster skills. These citizen-responders work as part of a neighborhood or workplace team to assist as needed in a disaster when first responders are overwhelmed or not immediately available.

Training sessions cover disaster preparedness, fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, and team organization. Pre-registration is required for this class.
