Cows in the Library?

Ms Susan and I spend months planning for the Summer reading program. So, what happens when a presenter calls to inform us that they are not coming? Typically, we utilize alternative activities such as; storytimes, crafts and movies.

However, when the Mobile Dairy cow program was canceled, we knew we had a problem!  Many children had been talking about visiting the dairy cows for weeks, and we didn't want them to be disappointed. A puppet show was a perfect solution!

Luckily, we have a multi-talented staff!   With the support from our Branch Manager, Beth Krippel, and Circulation Assistant, Darla Pruitt, we were able to present a cow themed puppet show that everyone loved.  Afterwards, children made cow puppets that they took home.  Check out additional photographs of the event on our HCPL Flickr account .

If you attended this weeks program, you may want to extend your child's experience. I would like to suggest books from the HCPL storytime database. The Children's staff from 26 HCPL branch libraries have created this resource and it is available to anyone. There are numerous themes to choose from including two storytimes entries on cows.
