Dick Francis RIP 1920-2010

Dick FrancisMystery author Dick Francis died Sunday at age 89.  Francis began his life as a successful horse jockey, where he won over 350 races.  After retiring from racing, he took up writing and authored 42 bestsellers, which were set in the world of horse racing.

Forfeit Whip Hand Come to Grief

He is the only three time recipient of the Edgar Award for Best Novel, winning for Forfeit (1970), Whip Hand (1981) and Come to Grief (1996). In 1979 he received the Gold Dagger AWard for Fiction from Britian's Crime Writers Association and the Cartier Diamond Dagger lifetime achievement award in 1989.  The Mystery Writers of America bestowed the Grand Master Award in 1996.  In addition to literary awards, he became a Commander of the British Empire in 2000.
