Digital Media Catalog Upgrade Today

Update @ 2PM - The upgrade is complete and we have a temporary solution in place to help with the socket errors many of you have seen over the past few days.  A permanent solution should be in place by next week.  Thank you for your patience.

Our Digital Media Catalog vendor, OverDrive, will perform an equipment upgrade today (12/29/2011) at 10:30 AM to improve performance. This will cause an interruption of service that could last from 30 minutes to up to two hours.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

I have not been able to

I have not been able to download audio books to my Iphone since December. OverDrive app 2.3.3 only flashes open then closes. What can I do? Thank you.

It is probably best if you

It is probably best if you fill out the support form here so we can start to help you out with it.  If you can include the iOS you have on your iPhone, that would help.  If you do not have iOS 5 on your phone, this might be the reason.  The newest version may not be compatible with the iOS 4 or lower.

This is just a guess though.

I don't know if this problem

I don't know if this problem is happening to everyone but on my android samgsung exhibitII phone, it will not search properly on the digital media catalog anymore. Whenever I list a author under search or browse it says no matches, titles also. It's really frustrating to have to go through all the books listed under new epub books. Most times clicking on the subject area doen't work either. This has been going on the last month or so, any suggestions? Why are there only a couple of books available when you have 20 to 50 people on hold for a book? Is there a way to have access to more ebooks? Thanks

There are two questions here

There are two questions here which I will try to address. First, on my Android phone, I have it set up to not see the mobile version of the site. I see the full version so this is hard for me to test. We used a different phone and did a few test searches using the mobile version and it appeared to search ok for us. Can someone provide some specific examples we can try? If there is an issue, we would like to get it resolved. The second questions deals with titles on hold. We go in on a monthly basis to purchase additional copies of titles with high hold lists and low quantity of titles (IE: All She Ever Wanted by Barbara Freethy). The additional copies for December were unexpectedly held up but more copies for some high demand titles are on the way. When it comes to the hold lists, it really is a balancing act. We have to consider three things when deciding to purchase additional copies of titles that are on hold. What do we do when the title is no longer in demand and we have 10 copies not circulating? How much is the title? Some eAudio titles are $95 per copy. This eats the budget quickly. Do we purchase additional copies of the hold title or do we use the funds to purchase new content? We like to keep the hold ration around 8:1. This means that there are no more than 8 people on hold for each title. We will be purchasing additional titles with high holds in January to help meet the demand so some titles will get additional copies. I also previously mentioned that the additional copies for December were held up unexpectedly, but I hope it will be live soon. Hopefully this answers some of your questions. If someone could provide some examples to the searching issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't know if anyone else

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem, but I have returned ebooks to the library and they have been deleted from Manage my Kindle account on Amazon.com, but the ebooks still show in my ebookshelf in my Overdrive app that I have them checked out. They don't show up in my Kindle App anymore either. This has never happened before. Can you tell me what the issue is?

I have a feeling that the

I have a feeling that the problem with titles not being returned correctly has to do with the Socket Error code issue we are also having. I think when you are returning the titles, Adobe or Amazon cannot correctly talk to our system because of this issue. Therefore it is off your device or Amazon, but it is still showing up on our end. If you include your library card number and the titles that were not correctly removed from your account on this support form, I can have them removed for you. http://www.hcpl.net/form/digital-media-support We have a temporary solution in place and I have not encountered the Socket Error code issue since we tried this temporary fix so I am hopeful you will not either. On the plus side, new eBook titles were added yesterday! I apologize for the inconvenience.
