Ducks and Chickens in the Library?!

January 13th is National Rubber Ducky Day! However, you don't have to wait until then to come  see the 259 unique duckies in the display case. Children can then play the  I Spy Ducks game! Readers and non-reader alike are encouraged to participate in this fun early literacy activity. Children will search the library for clues. When they find the item they are looking for they will circle or color-in the appropriate answer on a game board.

1. Come to the Information Desk at the library and request for a game board.  This game can be completed individually, as a family, or as a group activity.

2. After you have completed the game board, each child will be invited to put their name on a special die cut which will be placed on our bulletin board for everyone to see.
3.Then, they may choose a single prize from our treasure chest. This activity will be available during business hours and children may play it as often as they wish.

Prizes are limited to one per child and it will be presented at the time of their first completion.

As much as, we love the Rubber Duckie display; soon, there will be real fathered friends at the library.

 What is Project Peep?

Join us at the library, as we count down the days until the eggs hatch! This is a unique animal science program brought to Harris County Public Libraries through a grant provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).

Atascocita Branch Library begins this adventure with the incubation of chicken eggs provided to us by Blue Star Ranch of Bellville, TX! As we count down the 21 days until they hatch, the library will offer several classes which focus on Life Cycles, Eggs, Foster Chick Parenting, and if you want to turn this adventure into a backyard hobby…how to build a chicken coop. This is only a sneak peek of Project Peep; make sure to stop by the library to learn more.
