Father of the Brat Pack Passes Away
"Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns."
How many of you can recite quotes from movies such as The Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller's Day Off? If you are like many movie buffs who grew up in the eighties, you most likely recognize a line from a John Hughes movie before the quote is even finished. Movie producer, director, and screenplay writer John Hughes passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2009 of a heart attack in New York City. He will be remembered for making his mark in Hollywood and in the hearts of thousands with comedic "teenage angst" movie classics including The Breakfast Club that is quoted above.
Hughes was born in Lansing, Michigan on February 18, 1950 and spent his teenage years in Illinois. Shortly after graduating from high school, he attended Arizona State University but dropped out to work as an ad copywriter. He eventually obtained a job with National Lampoon Magazine and then wrote the script for National Lampoon's Vacation. He then continued with his directorial debut with Sixteen Candles.
