Freeman Teens: Celebrating African American History Month
Join us in the Teen Zone on Tuesday, February 15 @ 4:30 pm for an Academy Award-winning documentary movie about two famous African American boxers.
Did you know that the first African American World Heavyweight Champion was originally from Galveston, TX? Jack Johnson won the title in 1908. After losing the title in 1915, it took over twenty years for another African American boxer to claim it: Joe Lewis in 1937. Joe Lewis has the record for holding the title longer (over 11 years) than anyone else in boxing history. Come watch the movie, enjoy snacks, and learn more about African American history and sports history.
