Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake
I just finished Kendare Blake's Girl of Nightmares, the sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood, and cannot wait to share it with you. If you haven't read Anna Dressed in Blood, beware there will be a spoiler alert!
Cas is a ghost killer. He's descends from a long line of warriors who find malicious ghosts and send them on their way. When Cas encounters Anna dressed in blood, he knows she's unlike any other ghost he's killed. While trying to figure out what to do about Anna, Cas also comes face to face with his father's killer, the Obeahman.
When we left Anna Dressed in Blood, Anna saved Cas and his friends from the Obeahman by sacrificing herself. Cas has since been in a daze but his friends, Thomas & Carmel, are coping and trying to get back to normal. Things can never go back to normal for Cas. He sees Anna everywhere and she appears to be suffering. Cas knows he must bring Anna back but this will be no easy task.
Girl of Nightmares was such a fast read for me. There was not as much gore as Anna Dressed in Blood but there were spooky elements that I loved. As much as I loved Anna, she still really freaked me out whenever Cas saw her. We also got to learn more about Cas' athame and its history. This world that Kendare Blake created is horrifying and interesting all at the same time. If you haven't already read this duology, you should definitely give it a try! Kendare Blake is an incredible writer and Girl of Nightmares is just wonderful.
