The Harry Potter and Twilight Effect on Movies

In the last few years more and more children and teen books have been made into movies.  My guess is that with the success of the Harry Potter films and the more recent success of the Twilight films, production companies are looking at more and more children and teen books to make into movies.  Each adaptation has met with varied success.  The current book to be made into a movie is How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell.  I saw the movie last night and it was well worth it.  The animation was beautiful  and seeing it in 3-D made it even more amazing.  The scenes were planned out to look more like a live action film with its cinematography.    Another movie coming out in the not so distant future is the adaptation of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series.  The trailer for this movie was before How to Train Your Dragon and it looks outstanding.  The computer animation looks... beautiful.  There is no better term.  Before I even see the film, I can predict it being nominated for best animated feature for the quality of the animation alone.  And another bonus was for the trailer they used 30 Seconds to Mars' song Kings and Queens.  Other books going to be made into movies in the next two years are:

Airman by Eoin Colfer

Magyk by Angie Sage

The 39 Clues by Rick Riordan, et. al.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznik

Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns by John Green

Maximum Ride by James Patterson

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Born to Rock by Gordon Korman

Uglies by Scott Westerfield

Pendragon by DJ MacHale

Children of the Lamp by Philip Kerr
