Hispanic Heritage MonthIn honor of the diverse cultures that comprise Harris County, the Harris County Public Library and its branches will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month starting September 15 and running through October 15. Programs, activities and displays will be offered at branches throughout Harris County.

Harris County continues to be shaped by, and to benefit from, its vibrant Hispanic community. Harris County Public Library hopes to educate, inform and entertain the citizens of Harris County during this month celebrating the contributions of Hispanics to the cultural and economic life of our nation.

Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library
September 1 – October 1
Hispanic Heritage Month Activities for All Ages: Crosswords and color pages designed to entertain and educate.

Maud Smith Marks Branch Library
Saturday September 17   1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Hispanic Heritage Festival: Delicious food, crafts, dancing and more.

Baldwin Boettcher Branch Library
Monday September 19   6:00 pm.
A Taste of Mexico: A sampling of delicious, authentic dishes from Mexico. Please register at the library Service Desk or by calling 281-821-1320.

Atascocita Branch Library
Tuesday September 20   7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
A Shrine in my Pocket: Learn about the importance of shrines in Hispanic culture and make a pocket-sized one for yourself. Craft supplies are provided by the library but are limited. Please register by 11:00 pm on Monday September 19.

Galena Park Branch Library
Wednesday September 21   11:00 am.
Bilingual Story Time for Hispanic Heritage Month. Bilingual stories for toddlers and pre-schoolers celebrating the diverse cultures of Latin America.

La Porte Community Library
Wednesday September 21   3:15 pm.
Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta Fan Craft: Make a Fiesta Fan for your very own. All supplies provided free of charge.

Spring Branch Memorial Library
Thursday September 22   3:30 pm.
Hispanic Heritage Month Crafts and Snacks: Enjoy some snacks and create beautiful decorations to take home to your family. For school-age children.

Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library
Thursday September 22   4:30 pm.
Tween Time: Mexican Muralists Learn more about the Mexican Revolution and the Mexican Muralist art movement. This program is geared toward tweens ages 8-12.

Aldine Branch Library
Thursday September 29   4:30 pm.
Flavor of Latin America: Enjoy the flavor of Latin American culture. Have fun making paper maracas, tortillas and listening to Latin music. For school age children.

Katy Branch Library
Saturday October 15   1:00 pm
¡Danza! Arte! Dance! Art! - Celebrating Hispanic Heritage: An afternoon of dance and art honoring a variety of Hispanic cultures. All ages.
