History Comes Alive At Evelyn Meador

We were privileged to host World War II veteran Birney T. Havey and friend Joe Machol on Tuesday, May 20th in our Meeting Room. Mr. Havey related his experiences as a U. S. Army infantryman on the front lines in the fight against the Nazis during the war. He participated in the Battle of North France, the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany, and earned the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and three combat medals as well as the Purple Heart.
Listening to Mr. Havey speak and seeing pictures of some of the places he fought brings history home and makes it come alive. There aren’t many of these old warriors left alive who can relate to us first-hand what it was like to be caught up in that field of fire.
Thank you Mr. Havey and Joe for helping to keep the memory alive. This is one of those things that should not be forgotten.
