An Introduction to Islam, The Religion and Its Cultures
We invite you to An Introduction to Islam, The Religion and Its Cultures, this Thursday, April 4th. Two speakers hand-picked by the people of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston and Al Salam Mosque in our neighborhood will be presenting the basics of the faith, to help you learn the things you've been wondering about and had no one to ask. As well there will be artifacts and food! That's 2 pm.Thursday, April 4th, in Room E 100. (Walk through the library; across the back patio, into the Commons Building, and into the first hallway on the right. The entrance to E-100 is on your immediate left.)
The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf also goes up on our Round Wall this week. The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf is a collection of 25 books and 4 DVDs to help people in the United States become more familiar with the people, places, history, faith, and cultures of Muslims around the world and within the U.S. The Bookshelf is intended to address the need and desire of the American public for trustworthy, accessible resources about Muslim beliefs and practices and the cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations. It's a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the American Library Association, and we're delighted to present it to you.
The library will also have a display of Islamic artifacts in the 2nd floor cabinet and artwork in Room L-129 for you to enjoy through the month of April.
