Kent Haruf, 1943-2014

National Book Award finalist Kent Haruf passed away on Nov. 30, 2014 at age 71. Haruf created the fictional town of Holt, Colorado in his first novel The Tie That Binds. He would return to the small High Plains town again in Plainsong, his most beloved work.

Plainsong weaves together intersecting family stories, including a pair of gruff bachelor farmers who agree to take in a pregnant teenage girl. Heartwarming and full of charm, Plainsong is that book that you will pass along to others with a "You have to read this, you'll love it!". Haruf's last work, Our Souls at Night, will be published posthumously in 2015.
