Library Snapshot Day

Library Snapshot Day at North ChannelOn Tuesday, May 4, 2010, the North Channel Library participated in Library Snapshot Day. Acting in partnership with the Texas Library Association and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, all branches of the Harris County Library Systems chose one day from April 26th to May 7th to collect information and comments from their customers about why they love their library.
The data collected showcases how valuable the library is to our customers. On just one day, over 600 people walked through the library doors. Library volunteers and staff members surveyed customers about why they visited the library that day.  It is apparent that the library is a source of information about a wide range of topics, from resumes and career information to books on boxing. Computer questions and classes were also popular topics. Many families attended the library’s weekly Toddler and Preschool Story Times.  The North Channel Library checked out 1138 items, including books, movies and audiobooks on May 4th, 2010. This is an almost 12% increase in circulation from the same day last year. “These numbers are proof that even in this digital age, the demise of the book is greatly exaggerated,” says Branch Librarian Carolyn Dial.  “We love our customers and are lucky to have such wonderful support from our community.”
