A Made-for-TV Christmas

christmas sceneI love Christmas! As the song says, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year” and I’m not one to argue. With brightly colored lights and decorations everywhere, familiar Christmas carols playing on the radio, and sugary treats baking in the oven, Christmas is a feast for the senses.

As a child, I grew up in a household that embraced everything about Christmas. We had many wonderful holiday traditions, but my favorites all involved watching Christmas movies together. Each year, we would watch all of the classic Christmas movies like White Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I still love those movies and watch them every year, but recently, I have added a few new movies to my seasonal viewing: made-for-TV Christmas movies.

I know what you’re thinking. Christmas movies made-for-TV, really? They may not have the highest production quality or the most serious plots, and, most likely, no one will win an acting award for being in one, but they are so much fun to watch.  They take everything that’s sentimental about the holiday season and put it in a movie. They are sweet and joyful, sometimes sappy, often romantic, and always brimming with holiday cheer.

If you’re in the mood for a made-for-TV Christmas movie this holiday season, check out some of HCPL’s offerings in the list below. And if you’d rather celebrate the season with a more traditional Christmas movie, here are links to blog posts from previous years: A Classic Christmas and A Modern Christmas. There is certainly a Christmas movie for every mood!
