The PhotographJoin us at Baldwin Boettcher on Monday, September 8, 6:30 p.m., for a discussion of The Photograph by Penelope Lively.  Copies of the book are available at the library.

Summary follows:

While looking for a file he needs, a man stumbles across something else:  An envelope marked “DON’T OPEN – DESTROY.”   Not heeding the warning, he finds inside a photograph of his deceased wife, at an unknown gathering, holding hands with another man, along with a handwritten note hinting of an affair.  So begins a journey of discovery that reveals a tight web of secrets -- within marriages, between sisters, and at the heart of the affair.  The wife, Kath, with her mesmerizing looks and casual ways, moves like a ghost through the memories of everyone who knew her -- and a portrait emerges of a woman whose life cannot be understood without plumbing the emotional depths of the people she touched.  A masterpiece of psychological suspense.
