May Children's Department Programs at Freeman Library

Here are some fun programs we'll have for children in the merry month of May.

Thursday, May 3 at 4:30 pm - El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros (Chilldren's Book Day).  Celebrate a love of reading by hearing a story read in English and then in Spanish.   This festive program will celebrate the many cultures of the area with crafts and a tasty treat.   This program is recommended for children 3 years and older.  Tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm.

Friday, May 4 - Houston Firefighters visit Freeman with their trucks at 10:15 am.  No tickets are needed for this program held on the Diana Lane side of the library.  Children will receive firefighter hats as supplies last.

Saturday May 5 & 19 - Family Storytime at 11:00 am - No tickets are needed for this storytime.

Monday, May 7 - Maker Monday at 4:30 pm - Wind Turbine Challenge - children 5-12 years old will enjoy this creative program where they'll learn about the concepts behind wind turbines.   Tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm.   The last Maker Monday of this school year will be Monday, May 14 at 4:30 pm when the theme will be Magnetic Mosaics.

Thursday, May 10 - Pajama Storytime - 6:00 pm - young children are welcome to show off their pajamas, slippers, blanket and or stuffed animal at this evening storytime.  Tickets given out at 5:30 pm.

Wednesday, May 16 at 4:30 pm - Book Club this book club for children 8-12 yeasrs old features the book From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.   There are copies of the book to be checked out.    There will be a brief discussion of the book and a viewing of the movie adaptation of the book.   Tickets given out at 4:00 pm.

Thursday, May 17 at 4:30 pm - Childrren 3-12 years old can celelbrate Asian Pacific American Heritage with a couple of crafts and a sweet snack.

Friday, May 18 - Baby Playtime at 10:00 am - Children from infants through 18 months old are invited to a playdate with their parent or caregiver.   No tickets are needed for this fun program.

Saturday, May 19 - Teen Volunteer Open House at 2:30 pm.  Teens are welcome to drop by and see the volunteer opportunities available in the Children's Department this summer.

****The Childrnen's Department will take a brief programming break from Monday, May 21 through Saturday, June 2 so that staff can visit school libraries to talk about the summer reading program and prepare materials to be used when storytimes resume on Monday, June 4 - the first day of the Summer Reading Program.   During the programming break, the Children's Department will be staffed and we will have printables and prepared crafts available as supplies last.
