Meet Evelyn

Evelyn Wotipka is a Texas native, growing up in the Crosby/Highlands area.  She has 2 children, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and –until recently – she also had a disdain for computers.  When Stratford began offering computer classes last fall, Evelyn was one of the first to sign up, although the staff were instructed not to let anyone one know she was willing to use one of those pesky computers.  “I don’t want anyone to know I’ve finally agreed to touch that thing.”

Over time, Evelyn successfully completed the basic courses as well as several internet courses such as Emails, Google Maps, Library Databases, and even Online Shopping.  She now uses “that thing” to check her emails, print and distribute maps to social events, order books from the library, and has even considered shopping on Amazon.  And the secret is out: now everyone knows she uses the pesky computer since she recently joined Facebook and now swaps pictures and messages with family and friends all over the country.   “I’ve learned a lot, but there’s still so much I don’t know,” she said on one recent trip to Stratford.  “I just want to learn to be comfortable with it.”

Now she can achieve that goal both with library resources and at home since she just purchased her first computer.  Congratulations, Evelyn!  Stratford Library will always be here to support you as you continue your journey into the computer world.

All computer classes are free of charge and offered on a first come, first served basis.  For more information on availability, please contact the Stratford staff at 281-426-3521.  You can also click here for a class schedule.
