Movies & TV for a Vacation
Have you ever had an experience that vividly reminds you of a particular movie or an episode from a TV series? Something that makes you want to curl up on the couch as soon as you get home and watch the movie? I recently spent two weeks in England, Wales and Ireland and it seemed like everything I saw reminded me of one movie or another. After the first few days, I started keeping a mental list of movies and TV shows in my head, things to watch when my vacation was over and normal life had resumed. By the end of the two weeks, the list was quite extensive!
Below is part of my mental list of movies and TV shows, along with what I saw that made me think of each one.
Kimberly’s Vacation List:
- Leap Year (for the pretty Irish countryside)
- Mary Poppins (after humming “Feed the Birds” outside St. Paul’s Cathedral)
- Deathtrap (after seeing a staging of the play in London)
- Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (after touring Lacock, a tiny village where some of the filming was done)
- Persuasion – 1995 or 2007 (after spending the day in Bath)
- The Queen (after touring the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace)
- The Mummy (after stopping by the British Museum and seeing the Rosetta Stone)
- The Tudors (after touring Hampton Court Palace, where Henry VIII lived)
- Phantom of the Opera (after seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel, Love Never Dies, in the West End)
- The Young Victoria (after viewing the Victoria & Albert: Art & Love exhibit at the Queen’s Gallery)
- Doctor Who (after walking through the exhibit in Cardiff)
- Torchwood (after posing for pictures in front of the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, where parts of the show are filmed)
- Merlin (because a good portion of the show is filmed in Cardiff)

Your blog post inspired me to watch Persuasion yet again! When I visited Bath, I saw so many familiar scenes that I kept expecting the colorful little parade to come out of nowhere and sweep me away.

I've always thought the parade at the end of that version of Persuasion seemed particularly random, but that didn't stop me from looking for it on every street in Bath!
