Moving from beginning readers to chapter books
So, when a new reader has mastered Dick and Jane, ...what's next? Harry Potter? umm, probably not.
Here are some thinner chapter books that are good for those kids moving on from beginning readers--they have lots of white space, larger text, and lots of pictures just like easy readers, just more pages.
Princess Posey books by Stephanie Greene: Posey and her two best friends and their adventures in first grade.
Zapato Power by Jacqueline Jules: Freddy Ramos uses his special sneakers that give him super speed.
Captain Awesome by Stan Kirby: Eugene has a superhero alter ego: Captain Awesome.
DC Super-pets: you got your super heroes, your super villains, and now super pets!
Mercy Watson by Kate DiCamillo: the humorous misadventures of the Watson's pet pig, Mercy.
Stink by Megan McDonald: The shortest kid in the second grade, James Moody, also known as Stink.
