Mural in Motion

A life-size, ceramic mosaic on a curved wall greets patrons at the entrance of the Aldine Library. Do you know its history? Under the direction of artist Reginald Adams with the Museum of Fine arts and the guidance of Israel Barbosa, Stovall Middle School students and four Aldine teens helped create the 10 foot high and 80 foot wide mosaic in the summer of 2002. The mural is based on a photo of 12 real people with books, such as Adams with his son on his shoulders, Barbosa on a skateboard, children walking, riding a bicycle, pulling a wagon, and on roller skates. The mural also features a senior adult man pushing a woman in a wheelchair.

The mural project is a result of partnership that includes the Harris County Library system, Precinct 1 Commissioner El Franco Lee's office, the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston and the Greater Greenspoint District. The mural is also part of the Aldine Corridor Revitalization Partnership's beautification effort.
