Murder in the Gardens
Eleven year old Flavia de Luce is at her best in A Red Herring Without Mustard. As usual, she roams her family’s estate and the nearby village, set in post WWII England. Her sisters torment her, her father is lost in his own world, and of course, she discovers a mystery. The local poacher, Brookie Harewood, is found hanging from a statue in the family gardens. Flavia gets involved with local gypsies, finds family secrets and eventually solves the murder. This series, for adults Flavia's age, is humorous and charming. The other books in the series are The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag.
