Need a mini vacay?
If you're short on vacation time and cash but want to treat the family to a great experience, consider going to Abilene for the weekend of June 14. The imaginative world of Dr. Seuss is taking over downtown Abilene! The whole family can take a tour of his most famous and hidden works at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature and at The Center for Contempory Arts. And the kids will love dramatic presentations from eight different Dr. Seuss books throughout the weekend. Where else can they meet the characters, see the movies, and gaze at the many artworks of Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss)?
But this fun-packed weekend of Dr. Seuss isn't just for the kiddos. Theodor Geisel was a prolific artist whose works span 65 years. He began his career not as a children’s author but as a cartoonist. Geisel was often quoted as saying, “I don’t write for children, I write for people.” The Art of Dr. Seuss – A Retrospective Exhibition celebrates the art and life of Theodor Geisel. Originals and reproductions of his editorial, advertising, military and book careers, and estate authorized reproductions of his “Secret Art” collection will be on display.
The first 250 families to register will receive a $10 gift card to either Buffalo Wild Wings or Famous Daves.
Registration provides entrance to: eight different dramatic presentations, exhibits and art activities, Frontier Texas! play area, and Hodge Podge in Garage. Half price admittance to: The Grace Museum, Frontier Texas!, and the Abilene Zoo.
