"Experts tell us that children need to hear a thousand stories read aloud before they begin to learn to read for themselves."  --Mem Fox in Reading Magic

1000 books sounds like a lot, but it is a very doable and worthwhile goal for every parent. If you read just one story a day---just 5 to 15 minutes of your time--you will achieve this goal in less than 3 years. If you read 3 books a day, you will have read 1000 books in one year! The Children's Librarians of the Harris County Library System have teamed up to create 1001 Books Before Kindergarten. This new program is a fun and easy way of keeping track of all those books. Why not start the new year with a resolution that will have a lasting positive impact on your child? Stop by the library today for more information on how to get started!
