One Community, One Book

Bluebird, BluebirdEvery October public libraries, school libraries, and college libraries all over southeast Texas participate in an event called “Gulf Coast Reads.” The idea is to get as many people as possible to read the same book at the same time so that they can talk about it with their families, friends, coworkers, fellow bus riders, etc. This year’s selection is “Bluebird, Bluebird” by Attica Locke, a writer

and producer of the Emmy-winning show “Empire.” It is the story of a black Texas Ranger investigating the racially-charged murders of a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman in a tiny community in deep East Texas. Copies are available through the library. Read it and see why it got rave reviews! Then join us at the library on Wednesday, October 24, at 6 pm or Tuesday, October 23, at 2:30 pm, to share your thoughts.
