Reading Pays Off
Cynthia Sanders' love of reading paid off this week.
The Houston resident who spends a lot of Saturdays at Parker Williams Branch Library won a $50 Amazon gift card in a drawing for adults who read four or more books during the summer reading program, Reader Nation. One lucky winner was chosen from each branch in the Harris County Public Library system.
"I come in here every Saturday. I just like reading," Sanders says. "It's a pleasure. It's quiet and I can spend hours (in the library)."
Sanders says she might do some Christmas shopping with the gift card. Her son has participated in the children's summer reading program the past two years, and she remembers thinking in previous years that it would be good if adults could participate also. Then earlier this summer she read a newspaper article about the program and registered on-line.
A Toni Morrison fan, Sanders says she definitely will participate in the adult summer reading program again.
