Rock On With Reading @ Your Library This Summer

HCPL’s Summer Reading theme this year is “Libraries Rock!” and whether your jam is reading, coding class, art camp, robotics or, of course, music you will earn points toward cool incentives and prize drawings. We’ll even have a reading playlist to keep you rockin’ all summer long!

HCPL Summer Reading runs June 4 – August 4. There will be plenty of programs to spark the imagination and boost creativity at all HCPL branches.  The Curiosity Cruiser and library staff will also be spreading summer reading fun throughout Harris County communities.


Summer Reading highlights include

For Kids
• Museum of Fine Arts Houston Art Camp
• Houston Food Bank will also provide Kids Café lunches at 17 library locations.
• Book Bash Touring Productions presents Three Nasty Gnarlies, a play based on the beloved kids’ book by Keith Graves
• Houston Ballet Dance to Learn


For Teens
• Anime Club
• Mindstorm Robotics
• Maker Camp and other Maker programs

For Adults
• Musical Concerts
• Murder Mystery Interactive Performances
• Writers Workshops

Earn points by reading anything you want, doing activities, and writing reviews. Finish one book and you earn 10 points! Read for 30 minutes and you earn 10 points! Do an activity and you earn 5 points! Write a review to earn another 5 points! Every 100 points you earn, you are eligible for another prize until you earn 300 points and complete the program.
