September Is National Library Card Sign-Up Month

Library lovers come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing they all have in common is that they remember getting their first library card and they remember knowing with a certainty they rarely felt before or since that it was a life-changing moment.

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and this week Book Hunters in Brief brings you books that are about that moment.

The Library Card by Jerry Spinelli
Richard Wright and the Library Card by William Miller
Jumping Off Library Shelves: A Book of Poems  selected by Lee Bennett Hopkins
Our Library by Eve Bunting
The Storyteller’s Candle / La Velita de los Cuentos by Lucía González

If you or a loved one, for whatever reason, do not yet have a Harris County Public Library card, we've got one with your name on it (figuratively speaking, of course), and with our new iKnow Digital Access Card, you don't even have to come to the library (though we would love to see you!). The iKnow Card gives all Harris County residents instant access to all of HCPL's digital content including ebooks, research tools, even streaming movies and music!

We also know that once you have your brand new library card, the sheer abundance of choices can be a bit daunting. With such a huge buffet of reading goodness, where does you start, right? That's where Book Hunters come in. We're your personal reading consultants. Just pay us a visit online, tell us what you like and don't like and we'll create a customized reading list based on what you tell us. It's fast. It's easy and it's always free!
