On the Shelf: Stay

If you’re in the mood for a well-written novel filled with delightful characters, including a German Shepherd named Joe, then I highly recommend Stay by Allie Larkin. I had this book on my “to-be-read” shelf for a couple of months, and I’m so glad I finally got to it.

Nursing a broken heart with way too much Vodka and grape Kool-Aid following the wedding of her best friend, Janie, and the man she’s loved for years, Savannah “Van” Leone buys a German Shepherd puppy over the Internet. Van’s “puppy” turns out to be “a clumsy hundred-pound beast who only responds to commands in Slovak,” but he soon becomes her new best friend. With Joe’s help, Van puts the pieces of her life together again and finds true love with a ruggedly handsome vet.

Warm, witty, poignant and funny best describe Stay. I felt so good as I turned the last page, and I’m definitely looking forward to more from first-time novelist Larkin
