Staff Pick - Eric A Kimmel
Eric A. Kimmel is the author of several children's books, and I frequently incorperate these items into my Family Storytime program. I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you.
Children of all ages are captivated by the familiarity of folk and fairy tales. However, some of their favorites are the fractured fairy tales. These books offer a surprise spin to the traditional story by providing a unique setting and point of view.
For example, last month we read Eric A Kimmel's story of The Three Cabritos. This book takes the traditional tale of The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and places a Texas twist to the story. In Kimmel's book, the three goats desire to cross the Rio Grande so they may celebrate in a Mexican fiesta. The only thing that stands in their way is the monstrous Chupacabra (goat-sucker) that lives below the bridge. Check out the book, to find out how the three brothers come up with a clever and cunning plan trick the Chupacabra.
