Summer Reading 2015 Registration Begins June 1!

Harris County Public Library is gearing up for another busy summer of reading and fun, and with programs for babies, children, teens and adults, the whole family can participate. It all kicks off June 1 and runs through August 8. Our branches have plenty of entertaining and educational programs to spark the imagination, and there are cool incentives to help everyone stay motivated to read all summer long!

It’s simple to participate, starting June 1, register online, then read and log your books or the amount of time you read. That’s it. Everyone who completes the program will be automatically entered into one of several drawings. We will be giving away three Kindle Fires, and awesome, age-appropriate LEGO sets for babies and kids. Visit the Summer Reading page for full details.

HCPL’s Summer Reading Program is all about fun (after all that is what summer for!), but it is fun with a purpose. It is a fact that children and teens who read for pleasure during the summer break, perform better at school in the fall. Furthermore, study after study shows that parents who read with their children and read for pleasure themselves tend to have kids who grow up to be happier and more prosperous than those who don’t. As we like to say at HCPL, “Reading is a Superpower!”

Stop by your local branch and pick up a calendar so you don’t miss any of the programs. All programs are free and open to the public.  For more information about the branch closest to you, call 713-749-9000 or log on to
