Summer Reading Program 2017 starts on Monday, June 5

The 2017 Summer Reading Program officially starts on Monday, June 5.   The theme this year is "Build a Better World".   Children will be able to read and do activties to earn points towards a variety of rewards. Children can earn 5 points by reading 20 minutes, writing a review of a book, or doing an activity.  They can earn 10 points by reading a whole book.  Here are the rewards: 100 points - a fun sticker; 200 points - a Chipotle gift card; 300 points - a "Build a Better World" magnet; 400 points - a book from our treasure chest; and 500 points - an amazing medal.

In addition to our regular storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers; we will have special programs on Thursdays at 2:30 & 3:30 pm.  These programs require tickets.  They are free and available in the Children's Department starting 30 minutes before each session.  On Thursday, June 8 - Decorate a tote bag to carry all your great reading finds!; Thursday, June 15 - Crocodile Encounter from Angleton will bring snakes, reptiles, and an alligator to show children; Thursday, June 22 - Magician Mick Corley will have children laughing with jokes, puppets and mime; and Thursday, June 29 -  Thomas Davis "The Snakeman" will bring a number of snakes for children to see and toucn.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting these programs as well as many others throughout the year.

We also continue to have our monthly programs.  Most of these programs require tickets.  They are free and available 30 minutes before the program.  Bilingual Chinese and English Storytime on Monday, June 5 at 6:00 pm; Family Storytime on Saturdays, June 3 and June 17 at 11:00 am (no tickets needed); and Baby Playtime on Friday, June 16 at 10:00 am. (no tickets needed).  On Friday, June 30 at 10:15 am - we will have Toddlers-in-Motion - a program for children 18 months- 3 years old that combines music and movement.
