Technology Topics for May

Technology education classes and topics for the Month of May at the Northwest Branch Library include:

 

Emedia & Apps Workshops

 A staff member will be available to provide hands on assistance with ebook/eaudiobook downloads through Overdrive/HOOPLA/Recorded books on devices such as I-Pads, Kindles, and Smart Phones. Staff will answer questions and troubleshoot problems that customers may be encounter while using a digital library service. Tuesday's at 3:00pm and Saturdays on 5/6 & 5/20 at 10:00am.

Learning Express Graduate School Edition

Is graduate school in your near future? Are you planning on taking the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT test? If your answer is yes, then consider spending time with the staff at Northwest to learn about free resources that are available to lessen the financial burden that often comes with pursuing higher education. Staff will talk about the College Center Plus feature within Learning Express Library and spotlight other resources that can help you in your pursuit of advanced education. Wednesday, May 3rd at 7:00pm.

Keyboarding 101 Class

Do you need to brush up on your typing skills for school or work? Do you want to be able to better interact with your computer? Northwest Branch Library will offer a class today that will increase your typing ability. An instructor will be available to assist students throughout the program. Ability level: beginner, requirements: none. Fridays  on 5/5 & 5/19 at 1:00pm.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context

Opposing Viewpoints In Context is the premier online resource covering today’s hottest social issues, from capital punishment to immigration, to marijuana. This cross-curricular research tool supports science, social studies, current events, and language arts classes. Its informed, differing views present each side of an issue and help students develop information literacy, critical thinking skills, and the confidence to draw their own valid conclusions. Featured in the "Social Issues & Opinion" section. Material is helpful for High School & College students who need to write an argumentative paper. Monday, May 8th  at 7:00pm.

Mousercise Class

Learn Another Language with Pronunciator

Pronunciator is a fun and free way to learn more than 80 languages with self-directed lessons, live teachers, movies, music, and more. Pronunciator is free to Harris County Library Customers. Staff will do a live demo of the service, answer questions related to Pronunciator, and describe other language learning resources that are available to library customers. Wednesday, May 17th at 7:00pm.

Verified details on 14 million U.S. businesses and 210 million U.S. residents. Find new business opportunities, research executives and companies, find news articles, conduct job searches, research papers, locate addresses and phone numbers, conduct market research and much more. Monday, May 22nd at 7:00pm.
