We Are Here to Support You

At the Atascocita Branch Library we have several tools to support you and the needs of your students.

Storytime Bagged Kits
Ms Susan and I have created 61 themed storytime kits. Each bag includes approximately 10 to 12 picture books that are appropriate for children through elementary school students. These books are wonderful read-a-loud items and have been chosen to compliment a basic curriculum. Teachers love the kits to use in their classrooms. On the other hand, we love to hear your feedback and if there is a subject that we have not covered please let us know. We can help you find additional materials. If it is a subject that will benefit the community as a whole; we might even be able to create a new kit.

Storytime Database
The Children’s staff throughout the Harris County Public Library system have created over 200 storytime themes just for you!  Each is based on a theme and have been developed specifically for babies, toddlers,  pre-school and elementary school students. Most of the themed booklist also include songs, fingerplays and even a craft.

Assignment Alert
We want to make sure that your students have the tools they need to succeed.  In order to encourage communication the Harris County Library system has created an assignment alert.   In just a few easy steps, you will be able to inform us of the group projects your students will be working.

Just log on to http://www.hcpl.net/kidsite/pandt/assignment_alert.html
There you will be able to provide details about your assignment, the type of materials that you would prefer students to use, and which of our branches they are likely to visit.

Please be aware, that some materials may need to be transferred from other locations; so advanced notice is not only appreciated, but in some cases necessary. We will gladly do our best to have the appropriate materials ready for your students.

Finding the “right” book is sometimes difficult. As your personal reading advisor, we want to help you find reading materials that each individual will enjoy. This is a free program and is available to people of all ages. To get started, you will need to fill out the questioner on the Bookhunters page. From the information that you provide we will begin to compose a booklist specifically for you or your child.

Help Students Avoid the Summer Slide!
Through storytimes and special program events; there are numerous opportunities for families to discover that the library is a fun place to be.  We will soon have summer program guides available at the library.  However, if you would like a sneak peak of what we have planned, you can also view the information on our events calendar online.

Join the Summer Reading Club @ the Atascocita Branch Library!

No matter what an individual’s reading ability or age (infants – adult) they can join our Summer Reading Program. This is a self paced program in which each person has a choice to either read or listen to materials. This program will begin on June 4th  and run through August 11th. I will be providing additional information regarding how to sign up in future blogs.
